Alisha Jiwani joins the Kelowna Psychologists Group as Doctoral Candidate and Clinical Psychology Resident here at Kelowna Psychologists Group. She historically completed a B.A. Honours in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour from McMaster University, and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University. She has completed her doctoral coursework and currently she embarks on her final year of a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University. She plans to conduct assessment and treatment under the supervision of experienced registered psychologists here at KPG, and thus you have the benefit of service delivery from this doctoral candidate intern and another experienced member of our team. Your benefit coverage will be sought by the supervisor if you have extended health coverage, and services are rendered in a supervised practice with the registrant and the intern working together to plan for the intern to meet with you and assist you. The supervisor is readily available. There will be a number of experienced psychologists available for supervision, and your consent for service will identify the registered psychologist who is the best fit for your presenting concern to oversee service delivery. With a shortage of available direct care for mental health, Alish Jiwani is a welcome new member of our team and there is an intention for her to continue with us long-term.

She comes with some other field experience in that prior to commencing her doctoral studies, she practiced as a registered psychotherapist where she treated adolescents, adults, and couples. Alisha has conducted research in the areas of health psychology, military psychology, and pandemic psychology.

Alisha utilizes an integrative approach to treatment, drawing on different techniques from several modalities (e.g., cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, psychodynamic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction) to best address your treatment goals, and she is also conducting assessments. She values the consideration of biopsychosocial and medical factors associated with well-being. Alisha also believes that a crucial aspect of psychotherapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Without a strong therapeutic rapport, successful therapeutic outcomes become difficult to attain. Hence, this has always been at the forefront of her work.

Some of the areas which she provides treatment are:

-Depression and bereavement -Identity integration -Relational difficulties -Anxiety -Eating disorders -Post-traumatic stress disorder -Marital conflict -Postpartum adjustment

As with any of our practitioners at KPG, once you are through the door and accepted as a client, we will do our best to meet your needs and you will have access to all of our practitioners for in-house referrals. Thank you for entrusting your care to us.
